How do I track my ski runs?
Race Alpine uses your phone's sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS) to automatically detect gates and capture telemetry data. Just start a session, pocket your phone, and ski. If you prefer manual input, you can also use the built-in stopwatch and log gates by hand.
What does a typical training session look like?
Here's how most users train with Race Alpine:
- Start the telemetry session on the lift before your first run.
- Put the phone in your pocket.
- Ski all your runs — you don't have to touch the phone at all.
- Stop the session after the last run and review your data.
That's it — the app handles gate detection, split times and performance metrics automatically in the background.
Is Race Alpine free to use?
Race Alpine is free to download. Some advanced features may require a subscription in the future.
Which devices are supported?
Race Alpine is currently available for iOS devices. An Android version is in development and will be released soon.
Where should I put my phone?
The app asks you before each session. You'll see a body diagram where you tap the position — jacket pocket, ski pants, etc. This helps the sensor algorithms calibrate correctly for your setup.
How does gate detection work?
Race Alpine combines accelerometer, gyroscope and GPS data using sensor fusion to detect each gate pass. The algorithm identifies the characteristic motion pattern of a turn around a gate and logs it with speed, G-force and efficiency data.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. All telemetry recording and gate detection works fully offline. Your data is stored locally and synced to the server automatically when a connection becomes available.
How accurate is the telemetry?
Accuracy depends on your phone's sensors and GPS signal quality. Modern iPhones provide high-resolution accelerometer and gyroscope data at high sample rates. Speed, G-force and gate detection are reliable enough for day-to-day training analysis.
Can my coach see my data?
Not yet — but it's coming soon. We're building a club interface that will let coaches view their athletes' session data, track progress and manage training. Stay tuned.
